Tuesday Racing: Best of the Bets at Fontwell, Uttoxeter & Southwell

Heavy rain is forecast for most parts of the the country on Tuesday, but there are competitive cards at Fontwell and Uttoxeter, while Southwell hosts it maiden meeting on the newly-laid Tapeta surface. We’re keen on the chances of two proven mudlarks over the Jumps and a similarly proven, Group-class filly on the Flat.

Fontwell: 1:50 Casumo Horse Racing And Sports Betting Handicap Chase 2m5f135y

Flagrant Delitiep was sent off favourite on his reappearance, over hurdles, at Lingfield last month, but finished well beaten. However, he should be fitter this time and still looks fairly handicapped on his chase form last term, so must have a decent chance of resuming winning ways. He shouldn’t be inconvenienced by any rain. Selection: Flagrant Delitiep (3/1 with William Hill)

Uttoxeter: 1:30 Grehan Consulting Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase 2m4f

The presence of Call Me Lord means that Come On Teddy must race from 2lb out of the handicap, but Tom George’s 7-year-old boasts some solid hurdling form and has long appealed as the type to do better still over fences. He’s done all his winning on soft going but, with rain on the way, he could be in his element by the time Tuesday afternoon rolls around. Selection: Come On Teddy (11/2 with William Hill)

Southwell: 5:30 Watch Racing Free Online At Coral Winter Oaks Trial Fillies’ Handicap 1m3f

The 98-rated Virgin Snow hasn’t been seen in public for over a year but, despite giving weight away all round, may be able to make a winning return. She won on her three-year-old debut after a similarly lengthy absence and subsequently finished an encouraging second in the Group 3 Hoppings Fillies’ Stakes at Newcastle, so it would be dangerous to underestimate her chance. Selection: Virgin Snow (5/1 with William Hill)
