Exeter: 1:05 Feeling Festive Handicap Hurdle 2m2f111y

Guernsey has been beaten, albeit not far, three times since winning over course and distance in October, but the return to a testing course should help his cause. Indeed, he is due to go up 3lb in the weights in future after finishing strongly at Taunton last week, so he looks worth chancing, even if the going is possibly softer than ideal. Selection: Guernsey (4/1 with William Hill)

Ffos Las: 2:55 vickers.bet Odds Guaranteed Every Race Handicap Chase 3m1f60y

Backing any horse after an absence of nearly seven months requires a ‘leap of faith’, but winning pointer Danilo D’Airy is unbeaten over regulation fences and looks one to follow. Robert Bevis’ lightly-raced 8-year-old jumped well when winning both starts at Warwick in the spring and, while the handicapper has taken no chances with him, he could prove a cut above the opposition. Selection: Danilo D’Airy (10/3 with William Hill)

Southwell: 2:36 Read Katie Walsh On Betway Insider Handicap 1m4f

Carausius won over course and distance on the old Fibresand surface last March, but was even nore convincing on his Tapeta debut earlier this month and is 1lb ‘well in’ under a 5lb penalty. He takes a slight rise in class, but was value for more than his comfortable winning margin last time and is hard to oppose. Selection: Carausius (5/6 with William Hill)

Chelmsford: 6:00 weatherbysshop.co.uk Handicap 1m6f

Bascule has continued his progress since losing his maiden tag at Lingfield in September and looked better than ever when winning a similar race over course and distance five weeks ago. A 4lb rise in the weights means that he’s 3lb worse off with the runner-up Marshall Plan but, having officially improved by 14lb in the space of a month or two, there’s no telling where his progress might end. Selection: Bascule (9/4 with William Hill)
