Thursday Racing Tips: Three of the Best from Chepstow, Newcastle and Chelmsford

Weather permitting, there’s a little bit of something for everyone on Thursday. We’re particularly keen on a lightly-raced, progressive young hurdler at Chepstow, but we have strong fancies at Newcastle and Chelmsford too.

Chepstow: 3:20 Peter Michael Dixon Handicap Hurdle 2m3f100y

Helios Allen beat subsequent winner Representing Bob with something in hand on his penultimate start, over course and distance in November, and finished a close third to two more off his revised mark at Exeter last month. He’s been raised another 1lb in the weights, but his form is strong and he looks a decent bet to resume winning ways. Selection: Helios Allen (3/1 with William Hill)

Newcastle: 2:35 MansionBet Beaten By A Head Handicap 7f

Spartan Fighter is just 1lb higher in the weights than when winning a similar contest over course and distance, albeit narrowly, last month and can record his fourth win in five starts. He’s yet to win off a handicap mark this high but, even so, looks to have been found another decent opportunity against exposed opposition. Selection: Spartan Fighter (7/4 with William Hill)

Chelmsford: 7:00 Betsi Handicap 1m2f

Light Up Our Stars is hardly prolific and has yet to win over this far, but has won his last two starts under Luke Morris and still looks feasibly handicapped on the pick of his earlier form. He remains 4lb lower in the weights than when over a mile here in October, 2020, so must surely have a better chance than most. Selection: Light Up Our Stars (3/1 with William Hill)
