We are into the fifth and final day of the 2025 Royal Ascot Festival and Saturday’s racecard sees seven more top-class races going to post from 2.30pm, we have a preview and betting tip for each race below. Group One action on the card is ably supported by the famous cavalry charge that is the Wokingham Stakes, and the card culminates with the longest race of the season on the flat with the marathon Queen Alexandra Stakes to bring the curtain down on another fantastic five days at the Berkshire track.

  • 3:05 Ascot – GHOSTWRITER (11/2)
  • 3:40 Ascot – INISHERIN (9/2)
  • 4:20 Ascot – COMANCHE BRAVE (5/1)
  • 5:00 Ascot – GET IT (EW, 20/1)

2:30 Ascot – Chesham Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (2yo) 7f

Aidan O’Brien has won three of the last five renewals of the Chesham Stakes and the Ballydoyle maestro can add to his impressive week’s tally with MOMENTS OF JOY (13/8) who can follow up her debut victory. The Justify filly looked well forward that day when readily accounting for Little Sure Shot, value for more than the official winning distance and the front pair pulled clear of the rest. She found plenty for pressure when challenged by the runner up, staying on stoutly and she’s sure to improve for that experience. Quicker ground here would be a slight worry, but the O’Brien team are having a good week and she can make the most of the 5lbs she receives from the Godolphin runner Treanmor who was an impressive Newmarket winner.

3:05 Ascot – Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (4yo+) 1m4f

GHOSTWRITER (11/2) hasn’t really kicked on since his juvenile campaign, but this represents a step down in grade for the Invincible Spirit colt who could take advantage and regain winning ways. Clive Cox’s charge went unbeaten as a two-year-old, which includes a win here at Newmarket in a Group Two when taking the Royal Lodge Stakes. He contested at Group One level last term, unable to add to his tally of wins but largely running with credit and twice finishing third to the top-class City Of Troy in starts at Sandown and York before ending his season in the Irish Champion Stakes. He’s had two starts this season, at Meydan in April when finishing fourth in the Dubai Turf and more recently in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, where he finished sixth although he wasn’t helped by being squeezed out when trying to challenge two furlongs from home and losing his position. This longer trip is an unknown, but he looks ready for a stiffer test and quicker ground is of no concern. Assuming the additional yardage doesn’t stretch his stamina then he could go well taking a slight ease in class. FREE BET – Bet £20 with a new BetMaze account > get a £20 free bet.

3:40 Ascot – Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 (4yo+) 6f

Last season’s Commonwealth Cup winner INISHERIN (9/2) earns the vote to make it 2-2 for the season, and Kevin Ryan’s charge can improve on the back of his reappearance win at York last month. The Shamardal colt was a dual winner last term, taking the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock en route to his Commonwealth Cup victory. Fifth next time out in the July Cup, possibly unsuited by the track, and he shaped as if amiss when disappointing back at Haydock on his final outing of the season. Wind surgery followed, and he was off for eight months before making a winning reappearance, beating Flora Of Bermuda by a neck, finding plenty late on with the front pair pulling clear.  He looks as if he needs a stiff test at this sort of trip, so he’ll ideally want a strongly-run race here and as a past course winner, he has shown he handles this stiff track well. Quicker ground also is of no concern, and if building on that reappearance, then he could go close here.

4:20 Ascot – Jersey Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo) 7f

COMANCHE BRAVE (5/1) drops back in class having found Group One company too much last time out and it might pay to side with Donnacha O’Brien’s Wootton Bassett colt to regain winning ways. A Cork winner last term on his second career start, he found only one too good in a Listed race at Dundalk before possibly finding the ground against him on his penultimate start of the season in the Group Three Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown. Returning from a break he got to within a half-length of Group One winner and runner-up in the St James’s Palace Stakes Henri Matisse and the step up to one mile for his latest run in the Irish 2000 Guineas may just have stretched his stamina. He drops back to seven furlongs for this latest outing and tackles an easier grade now and there’d be no surprise to see a big performance from him here.

5:00 Ascot – Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+ 0-110) 6f

GET IT (EW, 20/1) showed some solid form last term, winning three times from six starts, which included the valuable Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood and having made a winning reappearance following a spell in the Emirates the Twilight Son gelding could be worth sticking with to go in again. George Baker’s charge saw off Kodi Lion over C&D last month on his return to action, making all and travelling strongly throughout the race to win cosily by two lengths; the runner-up won next time out to give the form a boost and while the handicapper has slapped him with a 7lbs rise in the weights he still has scope to be competitive off this mark. His Goodwood victory came off just 2lbs lower where he again made all the running; this will be a difficult race to dominate from the front with several other trailblazers in opposition, but he’ll like the ground and he’s proven over C&D and in a big field so while he’ll need a bit more he could well produce the goods. 5:35 Ascot – Golden Gates Stakes (Handicap) Cl2 (3yo 0-105) 1m2f

TYCOON (EW, 22/1) can resume winning ways now he tries handicaps and John Gosden’s lightly-raced charge could have more improvement to come fitted in first-time cheekpieces. The Kingman colt had shaped well on his sole start last term, finishing third behind Jonquil at Sandown, and making his seasonal debut at Windsor in April on the back of an eight-month layoff, he readily took the spoils from John T in a maiden which has thrown up a subsequent winner. That performance was bettered despite meeting with defeat in the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood where he may not have stayed the extra yardage behind Amiloc, fading to finish around seven lengths’ third and he’s quickly dropped back in trip for this latest outing which may suit him better. Switching now to the handicap ranks he could have further scope to improve from a potentially workable mark, and if the application of headgear for the first time sparks a positive reaction, then he could feature at the business end.

6:10 Ascot – Queen Alexandra Stakes (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (4yo+) 2m5½f

The final race of the 2025 Royal Ascot Festival and the longest race on the flat racing calendar so a real stamina test for runners. Willie Mullins has won this twice in recent years and the Closutton maestro sends out ex-French import SOBER (10/11) for this contest, where Ryan Moore on board looks a statement of intent. A multiple winner in France for Andre Fabre over the past couple of seasons he made one start for Mullins following his switch, which came at Killarney last month and yielded a victory. The Camelot colt is quickly returned the flat where a mark of 104 is well below the pick of his useful French form. He won twice at Group Two level in France a couple of seasons back at distances up to two miles on a range of conditions and his Killarney hurdles victory came over a trip just sort of this race so he may well improve for this stiff test of stamina. Fast ground suits and given his trainer’s record in the race he looks worth siding with to hand the top jumps trainer further success in the race.
