1:50 Newmarket
The start of the flat season for many, the Newmarket Craven Meeting and the opener is a trappy handicap over the 6f trip. The one I’ve landed on here is OSTILLO (25/1) EW. I always find front runners are very well suited over this course when the ground is on the quick side and Ostillo certainly likes to go forward. He’s drawn in stall 2 so should be able to grab the rail and hopefully prove tough to pass. De Sousa is good on front runners so it’s an interesting jockey booking to me. The horse needs to return to form because he’s been struggling for a little while now but if he does return to form, this mark of 87 is well within reach.2:25 Newmarket
The 2:25 contest is next up and it is the European Free Handicap which is a listed contest over 7f. My selection here is NEW SCIENCE (13/8) NB. A winner on this card 12 months on racecourse debut, hopefully he can add another win to his CV here on a course that obviously must suit him well. He won at Listed level back in July 2021 so should have no problem in this class. He ran at Meydan earlier in the year finishing third but he looked in need of that effort. He should be spot on now and has a fitness edge over his rivals who all make their seasonal debut.3:00 Newmarket
It’s Group 3 action up next, it is the Earl Of Sefton Stakes I’ve 1m1f. The selection here is MASTER OF THE SEAS (6/5) NAP again for Godolphin. The 2021 Craven Stakes winner bids to start his season in similar fashion this season at this same three day meeting. He was a Group 1 level two year-old which included a fine second in the 2000 Guineas. He obviously operates well at the track as he has proven it on multiple occasions. On all known form he’s the best of this lot. The ground will suit, tough to beat.3:35 Newmarket
The 3:35 is the feature of the day, a Group 3 race for the fillies known as the Nell Gwyn Stakes ran over 7f. The one for me is RISHES BAAR (10/1) EW for the David O’Meara time. She won well on her debut at Haydock in September of last year on what was similar fast ground despite showing signs of greenness throughout the race. We could see from that debut run she was a horse with plenty of promise. She then went to a competitive Group 3 contest at Ayr where she finished strongly running on into 5th at the death. She looked in need of a step up to 7f and that’s exactly what she got on his final start last season here at Newmarket in a Group 3. She finished 4th there but she was arguably the best horse in the race. She had zero luck in running and at the prices, I’m happy to give her a chance back here again over the 7f trip.Deposit £10 to get £30 in Free Bets Offer
