1:50 Newmarket
A very competitive wide open Class 2 Handicap opens proceedings on 2000 Guineas day. 7/1 the field at the time of writing over the 6f distance. The one I’ve landed on here is JUMBY (17/2) EW. I was encouraged by his seasonal debut here at Newmarket when finishing third behind Double Or Bubble. He done all his best work at the end of that contest and I think that effort will bring him on. The strong gallop will definitely suit him and he’s a previous course and distance winner. He’s ran at Group level so the drop to a handicap gives him every chance. William Buick is also an encouraging jockey booking.2:05 Thirsk
Another tough handicap is up next, the Thirsk Hunt Cup. The horse I like here is CRUYFF TURN (9/1) EW. The Tim Easterby stable always have to be respected in these sprint handicaps and the fact this lad is the choice of stable jockey David Allan is significant. He was behind his stable mate last time out but he’s likely to come on a lot for that effort. He’ll enjoy the fast ground and should make a bold bid from the front.2:25 Newmarket
The 2:25 contest is the Suffolk Handicap over the 1m1f trip. My selection is MOVIN TIME (4/1) for the Roger Varian team. Top weight here but Harry Davies takes off 7lb which is a massive help here. He’s very unexposed only having five career starts to date and another winter on his back will have done no harm. He was 6l behind top level performer Real World on his last start which was a great effort for one so inexperienced. I’m sure he’ll prove better than a handicapper and hopefully he’s ready to go first time out. The early market vibes are encouraging.2:40 Goodwood
The one race on ITV from Goodwood is the 2:40 and it is a listed contest over the mile for Fillies. The horse I like is PRIMO BACIO (13/8) NAP. She is easily the most talented horse in this race and a he’ll relish the ratting fast ground here. She bring Group 1 form to the table and my guess is this is a confidence booster before bigger targets become the focus as the season progresses.3:00 Newmarket
The 3:00 race from Newmarket is the Palace House Stakes, a Group 3 contest over the 5f trip. The one for me here is CAME FROM THE DARK (5/1) NB. Runner-up in this race last year, I think he’s a horse improving with age. There is plenty of pace on here and he likes to be hold up so that strong pace will definitely suit him well. Jockey Hollie Doyle has a good record on the selection and this consistent sort should go close Will the race set to suit.3:40 Newmarket
The first Classic of the season is up at 3:40, the Group 1 Qipco 2000 Guineas over the mile. Native Trail will be tough to beat but I’m happy to take him on with an each way selection. The selection is LIGHT INFANTRY (40/1) EW at a big price. An impressive winner on debut at Yarmouth, he then followed up in a decent race at Newbury over 7f. He did all his best work at the end of that race and found plenty for pressure. He likes to be held up and will be well suited to jockey Jamie Spencer in this type of race. He is entitled to improve further and this step up a mile is bound to bring further improvement. Hopefully, he can run into a place at a big price.2000 Guineas Free Bets
