1:15 Newbury
The 1:15 race from Newbury is a maiden hurdle over 2m which quite often has a highly promising horse bumper horse making their hurdle debut. This year it’s Jonbon and he is a very short price favourite at 1/3. I’d be happy to oppose him based on the fact we’ve never seen him jump a hurdle and he sweated up a lot when at the exciting Newbury Gallops last week (not exciting really). Good Risk At All was a promising bumper but was beaten on hurdles debut looking like he’d never seen a hurdle in his life. I’d play CHARLIES GLANCE EW (18/1) here. A winner on his bumper debut here at Newbury in a bumper that has worked out pretty well. The second Our Jester won last week at Ascot to give it a recent form boost. He wasn’t disgraced in the Aintree bumper at the Grand National meeting finishing mid-division and he’s worth a small each way play a big price here today.1:50 Newbury
The 1:50 race is over the chase course and it’s a handicap over 2m limited to novices. The one for me here is MISTER COFFEE (4/1) for the Nicky Henderson stable. A course winner here at Newbury over hurdles, he ran in a lot of nice competitive handicap hurdles throughout last season and certainly didn’t disgrace himself. He’s a big scopey sort who looks like to be much better over fences. Hopefully he can show us that today on ground that suits him well.2:25 Newbury
Another handicap chase is next up at Newbury and it is over the intermediate trip of just shy of 2m4f. The one I like in this is FANION D’ESTRUVAL NAP (11/4). A winner at this meeting back in 2019 where he bolted up off what was an attractive mark at the time I’m confident he can return to winning ways today. He finished fourth on his seasonal return at Aintree in the Old Roan Chase and that race is working out extremely well. He is certainly the classy horse in this race and I think he can defy top weight and land this contest today.3:00 Newbury
The feature race is next up at Newbury and it is the Long Distance Hurdle, a Grade 2 contest over 3m. I’d be happy to chance the potential improver in MRS MILNER (5/1) here. A decisive winner of the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival , I’m hoping this 6 year-old can continue on the upward progression this season. A lot of her rivals today are exposed and may well be on the decline so at the prices I think she deserves a chance. She has returned to action with a victory at Limerick last month and that should have put her spot on for this. The ground will suit and the Irish horses always have to be respected in this current NH world.3:35 Newbury
The finale on ITV is a very competitive handicap hurdle over the 3m trip. The one I like in this is ONE FOR YOU NB (7/1). The Phillip Hobbs stable are showing signs of life this season and their horses are certainly running a lot better this term than they did last term. This horse made a pleasing seasonal debut over this course and distance at the start of the month finishing third in a race I can see working out very well form wise. That effort should have put him spot on for this race and he remains off an appealing handicap mark of 123 for this.£60 in Free Bets!
