Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase Betting Tips 2022 – (Cheltenham Day 4, 4.50pm)

In October 2020, the BHA and Cheltenham Racecourse confirmed that there was to be a new race to be run at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival, the Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase, which in turn is replacing the Novices’ Handicap Chase. This will take place on the Friday, as the penultimate race of the meeting, and is a Grade 2 contest over 2 and a half miles. Inevitably there will be mixed opinions on this race being introduced, especially with the Novices’ Handicap Chase moving away from the festival to Sandown, however, this should be an excellent spectacle, illustrating the current quality of mares across Britain and Ireland. The support and backing of the most decorated jockey at the meeting, Ruby Walsh, and Paul Nicholls, who has won 11 of the last 14 trainers’ championships provides the feeling that this could add to the already star-studded 4 days of racing. With many of the potential runners holding entries for other races at the festival, the recommendation would be to play with a bookmaker offering non-runner no bet for Cheltenham 2021 if possible, although this will be taken into consideration in the price.

Mares Chase Betting Tip

The newest addition to the Cheltenham Card (unfortunately at the expense of the novice handicap chase) is the Mares Chase. Last year saw ELIMAY (5/2) beaten at 6/5, but Colreevy’s subsequent defeat of Monkfish and the horse formerly known as Envoi Allen proved that that narrow loss was no disgrace. (Maybe irrelevant but I wonder if any horse would have been able to give her 7 Lbs in a Gold cup). Elimay disappointed at Aintree but had been over to Carlilse for an abandoned meeting just the week before and I am happy to put a line through that run. Of the other market principles, Mount Ida is a likeable sort who has (remarkable) course form. However, at Punchestown Elimay gave her 6lbs and a beating, and I also suspect that the Aintree National is her main target for the season. Concertista was a far better hurdler than these 2 and her defeat of Magic Daze sets a good standard. However, she has only had 2 chase starts and had almost 20lbs to find on Racing Post Ratings. Gin and Lime may be a summer horse and I feel that the home team are trying to make Zambella out to be a challenger in a race in which she probably lacks the class to win.

BETTING TIP: ELIMAY – 5/2 with Betfred.
