Cheltenham Day 3 Tips
1:30 Cheltenham
The opener on day 3 is the intriguing clash between Galopin Des Champs and Bob Olinger in the Turners Novices Chase, the Grade 1 for the novice chases over the 2m4f trip. It’s hard to split them but I think the likely emphasis on stamina will play to the strengths of GALOPIN DES CHAMPS (11/10). He was faultless on Chase debut and looked like a real star. He followed that up with a Grade 1 success at Dublin Racing Festival and his jumping will be a useful asset in this intriguing match up.2:10 Cheltenham
Next up, is one of the most competitive handicaps of the weeks, the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle over 3m I like WINTER FOG (7/1) here for the Emmet Mullins team. I think this has been Emmet’s big handicap plot for this years Festival and he always seem to go close with them when that is the case. He got to the front too soon at Leopardstown last time out but still ran a cracker to finish second place. I think he can improve again for that effort and the jockey booking of Paul Townend is very intriguing.2:50 Cheltenham
The next race is the Grade 1 Ryanair Chase ran over the 2m4f trip. The banker of the week has to be ALLAHO (4/6) here. He was faultless when winning this race last year in breathtaking fashion. This race looks slightly stronger but he’ll get plenty of these in trouble along way out and may win the race in the third quarter of the contest. I think Janadil can pick up the pieces and finish second.3:30 Cheltenham
The feature on Day 3 at HQ is the Grade 1 Stayers Hurdle over 3m and it’s a wide open renewal. The one for me is KLASSICAL DREAM (4/1). The Supreme winner of 2019 went off the boil for a while but bounced right back to form when a well supported winner at the 2021 Punchestown Festival. He backed that up when beating the defending champion Flooring Porter over Christmas. I think he just ran too soon when disappointing in the Galmoy Hurdle last time out and I’d expect master trainer Willie Mullins to have him spot on for this today. The ground won’t be an issue.4:10 Cheltenham
The 4:10 race is the Paddy Power Plate, another tricky handicap over the chase course ran over 2m4f. The one for me is THE GLANCING QUEEN (4/1) NAP. Alan King, already in the winners enclosure this week with Edwardstone is fancied to have another winner here. She is a gutsy mare who ran a cracker on New Year’s Day here at Cheltenham when second behind L’Homme Presse who’s done a lot for that form to say the least. She’s open to further improvement and I think she’ll go close.4:50 Cheltenham
The 4:40 contest from Cheltenham is the Mares Novice Hurdle ran over the 2m trip. Plenty of intriguing mares within the line-up this year. I like PARTY CENTRAL (15/2) NB here. A strong traveller who does nothing in front, Davy Russell will have to be at his very best and deliver her as late as possible. The strong gallop they go here will suit her very well and she’s certainly improving all the time. Her handicap victory last time out really caught my eye with this race in mind.5:30 Cheltenham
The finale on Day 3 is the Kim Muir handicap chase ran over 3m2f. It’s another opportunity for the amateurs to get a winner here at the Festival. My selection in the finale is AINT THAT A SHAME (17/2) EW. Another horse who’ll be well suited by the strong gallop they’ll go here and he certainly won’t mind the ground. He is improving with each start and he stayed on well last time out to just be beaten a hard by a fairly useful yardstick in Champagne Platinum. Ben Harvey takes the reigns and he’s one of the better amateurs riders in my book. Good each way bet.How to get the SBK £50 Sign-up Offer
