Honeysuckle to win the Champion Hurdle
Honeysuckle looks the one to beat in the Champion Hurdle. Everytime, she has come to the well and her performance in the Irish Champion Hurdle was a career-best in my book. She travelled and jumper more like a proper 2 miler that day and that has set her up for a crack at this. Having managed to repel the gallant Benie Des Dieux in a titanic finish to the Mares Hurdle, she should be cherry ripe to give this a fair bash. I have been convinced to finally take the plunge and back this mare, and swallow my own pride in the process. I know her win in the ICH wasn’t the strongest form you’ll find – but it was enough to sway me, putting away Abacadbras, Sharjah and Saint Roi in a fairly common canter. I think she will take the world of beating.Bob Olinger to win the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle
The Henry De Bromhead charge has impressed this season and he’s a horse with a serious engine. On his seasonal debut, he finished second behind the exciting Ferny Hollow but I think he was just done for pace there over 2 miles. He stepped up to 2m4f next time out at Navan in a weak maiden hurdle but he won on the bridle and went right through the line. The big test came last time out where he stepped into Grade 1 company for the first time in the Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle and he was mighty impressive in winning by over 6l. He showed a great turn of foot as they headed into the straight and again he powered clear running right through the line. His jumping is getting better with every run and the faster they go the more it will suit Bob Olinger. I believe Bravemansgame will give Bob Olinger the perfect toe into the race and Bob Olinger will go past up the Cheltenham Hill. He showed a great turn of foot as they headed into the straight in the Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle and again he powered clear running right through the line. My selection here is Min in the Ryanair Chase. This fantastic servant to trainer Willie Mullins won this race last year after a superb ride from Paul Townend. Min has been there and done it, he is a seven-time Grade One winner with his best performance coming in the JLT Chase at Aintree in 2019, destroying the field by 20 lengths. In the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase Min pulled up after some poor jumping, there could be a suspicion that we have seen the best of Min after this display in February. But in the last few years, Min has been a far better horse over two miles and four furlongs, compared to a trip of just over two miles. This is why he could be on course for another good run in the Ryanair. It will be a competitive race, just as it was last year, with the likes of Allaho and Imperial Aura likely to be his rivals. For what Min has achieved and with what he has produced at the festival before, 6/1 is a very good price. Whether Townend rides him or not, Min has the class of a champion and this is my bet for the third day at the Cheltenham festival. Appreciate It to win the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle There is no better feeling than backing a winner in the Supreme at Cheltenham, it sets you up perfectly for the week ahead. There have been plenty of people trying to take this favourite on, but I don’t think that’s the wisest plan at all. Appreciate It is a fine horse for Willie Mullins, and is unbeaten over hurdles going into this race. He was a fine bumper performer last year and after he won the Grade 2 Bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival (DRF), a lot of people thought he would take a lot of beating in the Champion Bumper. Appreciate It ran a very respectable race before being collared close home by stablemate, Ferny Hollow, in last year’s Champion Bumper. That performance can also be upgraded, given he was the only one that was up with the pace throughout the race that still finished in the first six. His hurdling career has looked rock solid also. Having won a Cork maiden hurdle, beating the talented Master McShee in the process, he soared to new heights when thrashing a good looking field in the Grade 1 novice hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas. Without being quite as visually impressive at the DRF, he still confirmed placings with Ballyadam – winning quite decisively at the line. I see the argument that people want to take him on, as Willie Mullins has probably trained more speedy two milers in his time, but this horse looks very robust at the top of the market. With a pure lack of proper alternate challengers – I feel his chances are reflected very accurately by his price of 6/4 with Betfred (NRNB). One could easily make an argument that this is a very backable price in the festival opener.Cheltenham No Deposit Free Bets
