The first selection comes in the new Day 3 opener, the Grade 2 Mares Novices Hurdle over 2 miles. I think this race will suit DIVA LUNA (12/1) well. She was a good winner here at Cheltenham two starts ago over 2m4f when making all. She just got stuck in the mud last time out at Sandown so ignore that. She has the class to go close and this Grade 2 Bumper winner has plenty of pace for this 2 mile trip. She has a decent combination of both speed and stamina which will serve her well in this race. Her experience is a huge plus as well and she will be a simple ride for Kielan Woods.

Next up is the 2m4f Jack Richard’s Novice Handicap Chase. In typical Joseph O’Brien fashion, NURBURGRING (6/1) looks to have been primed for this. We know connections are very good at targeting one at a decent handicap as they shown yet again in the Fred Winter on Tuesday. This horse looks very well handicapped over fences given the promise he showed over hurdles last season which included victory in the Galway Hurdle and a fine fourth there at Cheltenham in the Truimph. Returning to decent ground will suit and it’s hard to not see him going close.

4:00 Cheltenham

The feature on Day 3 is the Grade 1 Stayers Hurdle over an extended 3 mile trip. This race has a nice each-way look to it and it is LANGER DAN (11/1) for me. He just comes alive in March as he has shown here the last two years when bolting up in the Coral Cup. I think this 3m will suit if he returns to the form we expect and he’s a decent price given his Festival form. Ignore his runs this season as it’s the same every year. Today is his big day.

5:20 Cheltenham

The final selection comes in the finale, the Kim Muir, a handicap chase over 3m2f. I do like MIDNIGHT OUR FRED (7/1) in this. He deserves to land a big handicap pit and he has a fine chance in this. A horse that is consistent, jumps well and likes to race prominently is ideal for Cheltenham and that’s what Midnight Our Fred has to offer. He was last seen finishing a fine second in the competitive Paddy Power Handicap Chase over Christmas where he jumped the last in front. He’s been freshened up since and he looks to have a great chance in my eyes.
