2:40 Cheltenham
The first selection on Day 2 comes in the competitive Coral Cup. A handicap hurdle over 2m5f.
The one I like is MAXXUM for Gordon Elliot. He thrives in these big handicaps and he has proven many a time he’s capable of carrying a big weight and running to a decent level. He was a good winner at Graded level last time out at Naas and this prominent race can run a big race under a decent 5lb claimer back in handicap company.
3:20 Cheltenham
Our next pick comes in the Cross Country Chase which offers a better betting market now it’s a handicap.
I like BUSSELTON here who looks well-handicapped to me. He’s been brought along steadily in the cross-country format and there was plenty of encouragement in his sixth placed effort last time out behind Stumptown. He’ll enjoy the quicker ground and connections have the blinkers on today which will perk him up.
4:40 Cheltenham
We head to the 4:40 for the Grand Annual, a handicap for the 2 mile chasers.
It is UNEXPECTED PARTY for me who looks to have been primed for a repeat bid in this contest. An impressive winner of this race last year, he can go close again off 6lb higher. He’s effective on decent ground and the Skelton’s obviously have a fantastic record in these handicaps.
5:20 Cheltenham
Our final selection comes in the Bumper at 5:20.
It’s KALYPSO’CHANCE for me in this. A bit of a forgotten horse in the Bumper, he brings a strong level of form to the table. He’s 2-2 and the form of his victory last time out looks strong. He’s been kept fresh for this and he is the number one for the strong Gordon Elliot yard.
