1:20 Goodwood – Coral Goodwood Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 2m4½f
The longest race of the week at Goodwood gets day five underway, and AGGAGIO (17/2) could be the answer to a tricky opening race. Gary Moore’s charge steps up in class, but he’s proven over this course, and the form of his latest victory here back in June has been franked by the runner-up who won the Northumberland Plate on his next start. The fourth home has also won both his subsequent starts, while the third, who reopposes here, filled the same spot behind Savrola in the Northumberland Vase. He did get plenty of weight from reopposing Sheradann, receiving a stone from Ian Williams’ charge; the pair reoppose on 4lbs worse terms, but the Born To Sea gelding could confirm the places. Also a winner over hurdles, this longer trip shouldn’t inconvenience and despite a rise in the weights, he could remain well-treated on his hurdles form. Five wins and five places from 14 course runs show he handles this venue well and for all this is a tougher test upped in grade, he can make his presence felt again.1:55 Goodwood – Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo) 1m
COSMIC YEAR (2/1) might have been amiss when disappointing in the Prix Jean Prat when last seen, and it could be worth forgiving Harry Charlton’s charge that effort; the Kingman colt may be better judged on his earlier exploits, which saw him win twice and finish runner-up to Field Of Gold in the Irish 2000 Guineas. Having won at Kempton in April, he ran out an impressive Newmarket winner next time when taking the Listed King Charles II Stake,s and there was no disgrace in his subsequent defeat in the Craven Stakes where he raced freely and carried his head awkwardly. He travelled well for most of the way in his latest French outing, but he found nothing when asked for effort and disappointed, eventually finishing seventh. He’s forgiven that effort, however, and there’d be no surprise to see him bounce back to form as he steps back up to one mile.2:30 Goodwood – Coral Golden Mile (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+) 1m
A big field has assembled for this valuable handicap, and at fancy prices it could be worth chancing LATTAM (28/1, EW) to post a big run. Julie Camacho’s charge hasn’t been seen since finishing down the field in the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster back in March, but the Lope De Vega gelding does go well fresh and went close at Ascot last October in the Balmoral on the back of an absence. He hasn’t tasted victory since Newcastle back in June 2023, but that victory did come from just 1lb lower than his mark today and he’s been a regular in these sorts of contests, often running with credit for William Haggas and carrying on the tradition for his current yard including when finishing runner-up off this rating in the 2024 Lincoln. His latest run could be forgiven, as although beaten, he’d have surely finished a good deal closer but for being badly hampered late on and eased so his finishing position can be overlooked. He’s worth another chance returning from another break, and he’s run well here previously. Softer ground would aid his cause so any rain would be welcome, but he does handle good ground and he may outrun his big price.3:05 Goodwood – King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 5f
BIG MOJO (11/2) is given another chance, having run well the last twic,e and Michael Appleby’s charge ought to give another good account. The Mohaather colt is a past C&D winner, taking last year’s Molecomb Stakes and he got the current campaign off to a winning start by taking the Group Three Pavilion Stakes in April. He’s since ran well in defeat, finishing a close fourth in the Sandy Lane Stakes before taking in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, where he finished seventh behind reopposing Time For Sandals, beaten five lengths. However, he was stopped in his run at a crucial stage, and his performance can be marked up given how he finished off that race, and he again ran with credit when just touched off at Newmarket in the July Cup latest. He may just have got to the front too soon on that occasion, but back at five furlongs here and given the likely strong pace, he should have the race run to suit and he can go close.3:45 Goodwood – Regent Seven Seas Cruises Bentinck Conditions Stakes Cl2 (4yo+) 1m1f
LIBERTY LANE (3/1) can bounce back from a lesser run in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot when last seen, and Karl Burke’s charge can make his presence felt here. The Teofilo gelding won twice last term, including taking the Cambridgeshire at Newmarke,t and he added to his tally when taking the Listed Festival Stakes over C&D back in May, beating Meydaan by a neck. Also a good third in the Group Two Huxley Stakes at Chester, he should find this grade a little easier than previous assignments and although he needs to concede weight to all his rival,s he is at least proven here an,d he has a good record at this distance despite winning over further in his career. Forgiven for his last outing at Ascot where he was drawn on the wrong side, he is worth another chance, and he ought to be involved if putting his best foot forward.4:20 Goodwood – Hawes & Curtis Nursery Handicap Cl2 (2yo) 6f
TRY STORM CAT (9/1) is progressing with every start, and the Saxon Warrior colt is taken to follow up his breakthrough success at Pontefract last time out. Charlie Johnston’s charge still looked inexperienced on that occasion, hanging markedly left turning into the straight but still holding too many guns for his rivals, and there’s surely better still to come from him as he gains further experience. He’s proven himself adept at handling undulating tracks, and his yard has historically enjoyed plenty of success here. An initial mark of 81 on his handicap debut could well underestimate his potential for improvement and he can stake a claim for victory under Rossa Ryan.4:55 Goodwood – Coral Pipped At The Post Winners Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl3 (3yo 0-90) 1m3f
Day four of Glorious Goodwood closes with another competitive handicap and RIDE THE THUNDER (10/1, EW) could prove the answer with this longer trip promising to suit the Night Of Thunder gelding. Roger Varian’s lightly raced charge had shown ability in maiden company last term, finishing runner-up on all three starts, and he duly got off the mark when successful on his seasonal debut at Nottingham in June, staying on well to land the spoils by a neck from Spanish Train. That was his first try at ten furlongs and he saw the trip out well. He then made his handicap debut over the same trip at Ascot earlier in the month, finishing fourth behind Mighty Boy and only beaten by around two lengths, although the steady pace may not have suited him on that occasion. He shaped as if he’d appreciate an even stiffer test, so it is no surprise to see him going up in distance for this latest outing, and if the extra yardage produces some improvement, then he could prove well treated off his 84 rating and he can go close.Bookies Welcome Offer for a Goodwood Free Bet
