1:20 Goodwood – Coral Pipped At The Post Winners Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo 0-105) 1m4f
NOVELISTA (11/1, EW) has hit the crossbar over slightly further in each of his past two starts and the Lope De Vega colt might be worth chancing here to get off the mark. Charlie Johnston’s lightly raced sort has only once finished outside the places in six career runs, when making his seasonal debut at York in May. He’s since found just one too good in outings at Doncaster and Haydock, beaten a head and a short-head respectively. That last outing when denied by Pole Star has seen the form franked; the winner struck at the Racing League meeting at Yarmouth last Thursday, while a couple of those who finished behind the selection have also both won since. He could have more to offer and the yard often enjoys success here with their runners so it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him competitive dropping back in trip.1:55 Goodwood – HKJC World Pool Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 (3yo+) 7f
JABAARA (11/2) won this race twelve months ago only to lose it in the Stewards’ Room, but it may be worth chancing Roger Varian’s charge to gain some compensation this time around. The Exceed and Excel filly wasn’t seen out for more than seven months following that run, and after a couple of lesser efforts in the first months of the campaign, she went close to victory in the Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield before resuming winning ways at Musselburgh in June. She did run a shade below her best back on the all-weather when last seen out at Chelmsford, but she’s shown her best form on turf and back on grass at this venu,e she could be capable of a big run under Sylvestre de Sousa who has a good record when partnering Roger Varian’s filly.2:30 Goodwood – HKJC World Pool Molecomb Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (2yo) 5f
MILITARY CODE (5/1) created a good impression when scoring on each of his first two starts prior to running below his best upped to six furlongs for the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. There, Charlie Appleby’s charge might not have seen out the stiff six furlongs behind Gstaad, beating only three rivals home. But he quickly left that form behind back at the minimum trip when going close at Sandown earlier in the month. The Wootton Bassett colt was only beaten a head there behind Staya, only giving way late and that form looks solid with the winner since going close in a Group Three at Ascot next time, while the third and fifth horses home have both tasted victory in subsequent runs. Trainer Charlie Appleby’s runners are beginning to hit form after a quiet time of things and he and jockey William Buick have a solid partnership with runners here so a big run wouldn’t surprise, given he’s open to plenty of improvement. It is difficult to get away from the claims of FIELD OF GOLD (2/5) who really should be unbeaten this season, his only blemish coming when given too much to do in the 2000 Guineas. John and Thady Gosden’s star has won both starts since, readily landing the odds at the Curragh in May and Ascot latest in the St James’s Palace Stakes to add to his reappearance win at Newmarket in the Craven Stakes. The Kingman colt was most impressive at Royal Ascot when last seen, readily accounting for reopposing Henri Matisse by the better part of three lengths, where he travelled well into the race and quickened up smartly to right the wrongs of the colts’ Classic. He’s arguably the best miler in Europe right now and comes into this contest with 6lbs in hand of his rivals on official ratings. William Buick takes over from Colin Keane for this latest outing and the pair could prove tough to beat in pursuit of another Group One success.3:45 Goodwood – British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m2f
A competitive handicap could go the way of Andrew Balding’s MUSIC PIECE (15/2, EW), who shaped as if the longer trip at Ascot latest may have stretched her stamina and the Camelot filly is taken to bounce back. A winner at Haydock over one mile last year, she made the frame on both starts back from a break, finishing third at Sandown in April before going one place better behind Victoria Harbour over C&D in the Listed Height Of Fashion Stakes. She was outbattled by the winner that day, but she did finish ahead of three next-time winners, including Sandringham victor Never Let Go and she could yet have further scope to improve off this mark. A drop back to ten furlongs for this latest run could prove to be a good move and she’s worthy of another chance judging on her previous form over this trip. It might be worth giving another chance to SPICY MARG (5/1) who drops back in class having contested Group Two company the last twice, and Michael Bell’s Starspangledbanner filly can resume winning ways. A Newmarket scorer on her debut, she was thrust into the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she finished mid-division in tenth place, having raced on the unfavoured far side. She subsequently went to Newmarket, where she was tried over an extra furlong in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes. On that occasion, she may have found the six furlongs stretching her as she faded once headed, having tried to cut out the running, and on both occasions she has run better than her bare form figures might suggest. A swift return to five furlongs might suit and while she’ll face plenty of competition for the lead here in what should be a fast-run race she nevertheless could go close with her sights lowered from previous assignments.4:55 Goodwood – World Pool Bet With The tote Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-95) 7f
A big field handicap to close out day two of Glorious Goodwood and a trappy affair could go the way of David Evans’ BLUE PRICE (10/1, EW) who has a decent record at the Sussex track. The Blue Point gelding won at this meeting twelve months ago, beating reopposing Billyjoh and almost following up back over C&D next time before perhaps feeling the exertions of a long season on his final outing at Ascot in the Balmoral Handicap where he disappointed. He’s been kept busy on the all-weather for the first half of the year although he has failed to add to his tally, and he’s interesting returning to grass on the back of a break at a venue where he’s won before and placed on two other occasions. Off this sort of mark he ought to remain competitive and he turns out here just 1lb higher than when successful at the meeting last year; a big run back at this venue then wouldn’t come as a shock and he can close out day two of Goodwood with a return to winning ways.Get £50 in Goodwood Free Bets with this Betfred Sign-up Offer
