2:30 Royal Ascot

The opening race on the final day is the Chesham Stakes. A listed contest for the 2 year-olds over 7f.

The horse I like is HUMIDITY (11/2) for Wathnan. A winner on debut at Newbury for the Balding yard, he stayed on gamely to fend off the challengers that day over 6f. The step up to 7f looks sure to suit, and the Balding horses always come forward a decent amount for their first racecourse run. Humidity is a brother to Holloway Boy, who was also a winner here at Royal Ascot at 2, which is encouraging.

3:05 Royal Ascot

Next up is the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes, a Group 2 for the elders over 1m4f.

The one for me is AL RIFFA (4/1). If he can return to anywhere near his best, he should be winning this. Second in the Group 1 Eclipse last season before winning at Group 1 level over in France on his next start, he appeared to be improving rapidly. Things haven’t been great of late, but I am hopeful the first-time blinkers can bring him back to his best. It’s a decent drop in class this too which can only help.

3:40 Royal Ascot

The 3:40 race is the QEII Jubilee Stakes. It is a Group 1 ran over 6f.

The Japanese star SATONO REVE (9/2) is fascinating here, and he has to be the pick for me. He brings a strong level of form to the table, and he’ll relish this fast surface as he’s shown over in Japan. He went to Sha Tin last time out and finished a good second behind arguably the best sprinter on the planet in Ka Yung Rising. He likes to come off the pace, so this track should really suit him. We’ve seen overseas raiders come over and win before here, especially over this sort of trip and I think we may well see it again.

5:00 Royal Ascot

The competitive Wokingham Handicap over 6f comes up at 5:00.

I think MORE THUNDER (4/1) has been working up to this and he looks sure to display a peak performance in my opinion. He showed plenty of promise for the Sir Michael Stoute yard at 3 last season, but since moving to the Haggas yard this season, he’s shown he’s rapidly on an upward curve. A winner of both starts this season at 6f, he’s stayed on strongly on both occasions to get up close to home. This stiff 6f at Ascot looks right up his street. He’s drawn on the right side from what we’ve seen this week and despite a 6lb rise for that win last time out, I still think he’s well-handicapped.
