1:50 Doncaster
The first race on ITV comes up at 1:50 and it is a fillies nursery handicap known as the ‘Carrie Red’ ran over the extended 6 furlongs. I do like CHIC COLUMBINE (3/1) here. She improved with each of his first three runs finishing third at Haydock on debut, second on her next start at Leicester before getting her head in front at Newcastle. She then went to Haydock for her handicap debut off 74 and she couldn’t have won much easier powering clear to win by over 3 lengths. The money that has come for her on all four runs going off close to evens on every occasion gives the impression the stable think a lot of her. It appears it’s started to click now and I think she will be able to defy this current mark of 83.2:25 Doncaster
Next up at 2:25, we have an 18 runner two year-old contest over the extended 6f. The one for me is DRAGON LEADER (9/4) NB. Unbeaten in three career starts winning the first two at Salisbury, he went to York for their valuable sales race last time out. He was well backed and despite showing signs of greenness still, he powered clear of the field to win by over 4 lengths. That looked a really good effort visually and this race sets up similar as 22 went to post for that race. I think he’ll just continue improving with experience.3:00 Doncaster
The first of two Group 2 races comes up at 3:00 and it is the May Hill Stakes, a Group 2 for the 2 year-old fillies over the mile. I like ROMANOVA (13/2) NAP here for the upcoming Ollie Sangster yard. She was well beaten on debut at Sandown but that was a huge ask running at listed level on debut. Her homework must have been really good but she was slowly away, pulled like a train and looked desperately in need of it. However, she then went to Salisbury and looked to have learnt an awful lot from that racecourse experience. She seemed to appreciate the quicker surface, making all and clearing away to win by over 7 lengths. She’s open to significant more improvement and she’ll do for me in here.3.35 Doncaster
The feature on Day 1 of the St Leger Meeting comes up at 3:35 and it is the Group 2 Park Hill Fillies Stakes over the extended 1m6f. It’s CHING SHIH (7/1) EW for me here for the David Simcock team. She ran an absolute belter finishing a good second to Arrest last time out at Newbury. The pair pulled 6 lengths clear of the third there and a repeat of that effort looks sure to see her go close. She likes to be held up off the pace and the long straight of Doncaster should give her plenty of time to make her way through. I think this trip will be ideal as her career best effort last time out came off the further she’s been, an extended 1m5f and she wasn’t stopping at the line. I think she’s a really solid selection here.[btn href=”https://bfpartners.click/o/2JM3nm?lpage=S7rolB&site_id=109759″]ADD STRAIGHT TO BETSLIP[/btn]
