1:50 York

The opener on the final day of the Dante meeting is the Maryland Fillies Stakes, a listed contest over 5f. The one I like is GOT TO LOVE A GREY (3/1). She was mega impressive on her racecourse debut at Nottingham showing a lot of pace early before pulling clear to win by 6L. She’s arguably open to more improvement that her market rival Persian Dreamer as her connections have been in pre-training prior to their debut. Karl Burke is magnificent with 2 year-olds and he won this last year so knows what it takes.

2:25 York

It’s more listed action for the fillies at 2:25, this time over the mile trip. The one for me in here is QUEEN FOR YOU (3/1) NB. She was another who looked really good on debut when winning a decent race at Ascot despite looking in need of the experience. She’s obviously a filly full of talent based on that effort and she’s open to significant amounts of improvements. She’s bred to be really good and the Gosden team are obviously as good as any at training fillies.

3:00 York

Next up at 3:00 is another typical wide-open York handicap, this time over the extended 1m2f. It’s MOKTASAAB (9/1) NAP for me here. He was a progressive 4 year-old last season winning a decent handicap at Newbury off 85 before following up at Goodwood off 92. He continued to perform well in decent handicaps and was only beaten a neck by Sam Cooke on his second to last start last year. Ignore his final run on heavy ground and he’ll come on for his seasonal reappearance finishing 4th at Newmarket. Dropped 2lb for that, now back off 94, he’ll do for me.

3:35 York

The feature on the final day is the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup Stakes, a chance for the stayers to strut their stuff over 1m6f. I think QUICKTHORN (5/2) can land this. He’ll enjoy the return to York having won here before and he may just get away from them from the front on this quick surface. He has plenty of pace and the 1m6f trip should suit him well. I’m hopeful he’ll come on for his reappearance effort at Meydan and being six, I’m hopeful he can continue progressing as a stayer this season. Oisin Murphy takes the ride and couldn’t be in better form at present.

4:10 York

The final race on ITV is the Darley Novice Stakes over the mile with 7 runners set to go to post. I’ll give NEW BUSINESS (5/1) another chance here. He was backed off the boards in the Wood Ditton last time out at Newmarket but could only manage third. That was his first career start and like a lot of Balding’s horses, I’d be very hopeful he’ll leave that form behind on his second start. The team remain in strong form and his homework must be strong given the market vibes on debut.
