1:30 Chester

The opener on Day 2 of the Chester May meeting is a 5f handicap. The one for me is NYMPHADORA (7/2) NAP here. 2nd here at this meeting last year behind improving sprinter Live In The Dream, she then ran a cracker at Royal Ascot finishing a good second in a competitive handicap off a mark of 96. She will have needed her reappearance run at Bath last month and she’s definitely get a race of this nature in her off a mark of 97. Stall 3 is perfect.

2:05 Chester

Next up at 2:05, we have a competitive 3 year/old handicap over the extended 7f. I’d chance outsider TRUE STATESMAN (20/1) EW in this. A front-runner draw in stall 3 ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by the Johnston yard has to be strongly respected in here. He also has a course win to his name which is an obvious plus around the Roudee. He has been gelded since we last seen him and hopefully that can bring out further improvement.

2:40 Chester

It’s listed action next up and another Derby trial, this time the Dee Stakes over 1m2f. It’s LOCAL DYNASTY (7/2) for me in the Dee Stakes. A winner of three of his four career starts including at Sandown on soft ground. He was a game winner last time out at Pontefract and this step up to 1m2f is bound to suit. He comes from powerful connections and it’s telling that they’re sending Local Dynasty here.

3:15 Chester

The 3:15 is the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes over the extended 1m5f trip. I think HAMISH (9/4) NB will take a fair beat of beating in this. The winner of this contest last season, he is proven at the track and will appreciate any cut in the ground after the recent rainfall. He came second at Group 1 level at the Curragh in September 2022 before winning a Group 3 at Ascot next time out. He was an unlucky second to end proceedings for last season at Newbury and I’d expect him to reserve that form with Max Vega today. He runs well fresh and has Tom Marquand in the saddle.

3:45 Chester

The final race on ITV comes up at 3:45 and it’s another trappy handicap, this time over 1m2f. It’s CITY STREAK (7/2) for me in here. A really encouraging 3 year-old campaign last season included a fine effort finishing second here at Chester after a victory at Wolverhampton. His seasonal reappearance at Chelmsford last month was full of promise finishing third beaten less than length. He’ll come on for that effort and a mark of 84 is well within his reach.
