Horse Racing Tips: Four of the Best from Kempton & Fakenham on Sunday

This time next week all eyes will be on Kempton for the King George VI Chase but, for now, we’ll have to make do with slightly more mundane fare. Still, a winner is a winner, so we’ve scoured the racecards in search of an early Christmas present or two.

Kempton: 2:30 Unibet Casino Deposit £10 Get £40 Bonus Handicap 6f

Course and distance winner Inevitable Outcome is on a career-high mark after winning at Wolverhampton just over a week ago, but is only 2lb higher in the weights than when just touched off, in this grade, over 7 furlongs at Lingfield last January. She appears, if anything, more effective over 6 furlongs and is 2-4 under Laura Pearson, so must have a decent chance of following up. Selection: Inevitable Outcome (10/3 with William Hill)

Kempton: 3:30 Wishing You All A Happy Christmas Handicap 1m

Laurentia hasn’t won for over a year, but has plummeted down the weights as a result and has shown signs of a revival on her last three starts. She is on a losing run of 13, but is 11lb lower in the weights than when winning, over 1 mile 2 furlongs, at Lingfield in November, 2020, so looks extraordinarily well-handicapped if able to recapture anything like her best form. Selection: Laurentia (7/2 with William Hill)

Fakenham: 2:50 Paddocks Cheveley Phase 2 Chase Handicap Chase 2m5f

Admiral Barratry is 1-2 over course and distance under Bryony Frost and his course win came off 4lb lower mark last January, following an uninspiring reappearance at Doncaster the previous month. Lucy Wadham’s 8-year-old was, once again, well beaten on his reappearance at Wetherby earlier this month but, with the benefit of that run, looks primed for a bold bid. Selection: Admiral Barratry (5/1 with William Hill)

Fakenham: 3:20 Happy Christmas Handicap Hurdle 2m

Vocal Duke remains 5lb higher in the weights than when winning a similar race over course and distance in October, but did so comfortably and should appreciate this less rigorous test of stamina, having run at Cheltenham and Sandown the last twice. Trainer Toby Lawes has done well with his handful of runners at Fakenham so far. Selection: Vocal Duke (12/1 with William Hill)
